Welcome and Why This Matters
5 Questions
Q
I just joined Envoy. Why do I need to go through an induction?
Imagine starting a new job with zero orientation. No one tells you what the company does, why it exists, or where you fit in. You would be lost from day one. God himself does not work that way. He called Moses, then briefed him. He chose Paul, then sent Ananias to explain the assignment. You are not here by accident. This course exists so that you walk into Envoy with your eyes wide open, knowing exactly where you are, why you are here, and what God has placed in your hands.
Q
Is this just information, or does it actually change anything?
Information alone never changed anyone. What this course is designed to do is ignite something. By the time you finish, you will not just know about Envoy. You will understand the mission God assigned to this church, why it is not coincidence that you are part of it, and how your unique gifting is vital to what God is building here. Knowledge without ownership is just trivia. Ownership without knowledge is just enthusiasm. This course gives you both.
Q
I have been a Christian for years. Is this course still relevant to me?
Absolutely. Knowing Jesus and knowing your local church assignment are two different things. A surgeon may be brilliant, but without knowing which hospital she serves, which team she belongs to, and what cases she is assigned to, her skills go nowhere. This course is not about teaching you who God is. It is about showing you where you have been posted and what your role is in this specific expression of his mission.
Q
What does the word "Envoy" actually mean?
An envoy is an official representative. Someone sent on behalf of another, carrying their authority and their message. The name comes directly from 2 Corinthians 5:20: "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." Every person who calls Envoy home is not just a churchgoer. You are a sent one. A representative of the King of Kings in your God-given domain. That is not a title. It is a calling.
Q
What should I expect by the end of this course?
Nine sections of short, focused content covering everything from Envoy's vision and mission, to how the church is organised, to what God expects of you and what you can expect of this community. You will finish with a certificate, a clear sense of identity, and no excuse for not knowing where you belong. The goal is simple: leave nothing vague. You deserve clarity. The mission demands it.
02
The Vision
3 Questions
Q
What is Envoy's vision?
Before we give you the answer, open your Bible to Revelation 7:9-10 and read it slowly. What do you see? A multitude. Every nation. Every language. Standing. Robed. Worshipping. That is not a program. That is not a church service. That is God's own end picture for humanity. Envoy's vision is simply this: to be a living, breathing, daily rehearsal of that scene right here in Cape Town, until it becomes reality across the nations. Envoy exists to rehearse it, reflect it, and run toward it every single day.
Q
What does Revelation 7:9-10 tell us about the kind of church Envoy is called to be?
It tells us five things. First, multitude: Envoy carries a burden for souls, not just members. Second, every nation: diversity is not a social value here, it is a prophetic one. Third, standing: we are called to be visible, excellent and outstanding in every room we enter. Fourth, before the Lamb: everything we do is Christ-centred. He must increase. We must decrease. Fifth, white robes: we pursue inner transformation and holiness, not just outward activity. Envoy is not trying to build a big church. It is trying to build the right one.
Q
What does it mean that Envoy is a microcosm of God's end picture?
A microcosm is a small but accurate representation of something much larger. When you walk into Envoy on a Sunday morning and see faces from a dozen nations worshipping the same God in the same room, that is not coincidence. It is a preview. A trailer of what eternity looks like. God did not place a multicultural church in Cape Town by accident. He is showing the city, the continent and the world what is coming. You are not just attending a service. You are participating in a prophetic statement.
03
The Mission
5 Questions
Q
What is Envoy's mission?
If the vision is the destination, the mission is the road. Envoy's mission is captured in three words: Train. Go. Transform. We are called to train disciples from all nations, to send them out, and to see the nations transformed through their God-given life mission. Every program, every department, every gathering exists to fulfil it.
Q
What does Train mean in practice?
Training at Envoy is not just Bible knowledge, although that is foundational. It is the combination of spiritual depth and practical competence. We believe God never called anyone to be excellent in church and average everywhere else. Training here shapes the whole person: the worshipper and the professional, the intercessor and the leader, the servant and the builder. We call this hybrid training. The goal is not to produce better church members. It is to produce better kings and priests.
Q
What does Go mean in practice?
Go means you are not the final destination of your own training. Everything poured into you is meant to flow through you. Going can look like a missionary trip to another continent. It can look like returning to your workplace on Monday morning with a renewed sense of purpose and authority. It can look like planting a new church, mentoring a colleague, or serving your community. Envoy is not a holding tank. It is a launching pad. You were trained to be sent.
Q
What does Transform mean in practice?
Transformation is the evidence that the mission worked. Not just changed people, but changed environments. Changed families. Changed communities. Changed cities. Changed nations. The mission is never complete at the point of conversion. It is complete when the people around you begin to experience the difference that God in you makes in the world around you. Envoy measures success not by how many people sit in our auditorium, but by how many lives are permanently altered because they passed through it.
Q
How does the mission connect to my everyday life?
This is the great restoration. The false wall between Sunday and Monday, between the sacred and the everyday, does not exist in God's economy. Adam was called to cultivate and keep the garden. Avad and shamar. Two words used exclusively for priestly service in the Old Testament. His work was never secular. It was consecrated. In the same way, your work, your relationships, your skills and your sphere of influence are your mission field. Train. Go. Transform. It begins the moment you leave this building.

The Story of Envoy
5 Questions
Q
Where did Envoy begin?
It began with a vision and an instruction. In 2004, Pastor Christian received a picture that would define everything. He saw the African continent bound in heavy, rusted chains, pinned to the earth by iron pegs driven deep into the ground. The concentration of pegs was heaviest across Central Africa. A continent of immeasurable destiny, held captive. Then, from the southernmost tip of Africa, from Cape Town, a great white stone was hurled toward the continent. As it travelled, it shattered into dozens of smaller stones. And wherever each stone landed, a chain link broke. A peg came loose. The land breathed. That vision is why Envoy exists in Cape Town. This was never coincidence. Cape Town is the launching pad.
Q
Why Cape Town specifically?
Historically Cape Town has been known as the Cape of Good Hope. A place of supply, a point of departure, a gateway for those continuing their journey. God had already written the theology into the geography. Many men and women across generations have heard from God about Cape Town as an origin point of continental revival, a place from which sent ones would carry fire from the southern tip all the way to Cairo and beyond. Envoy planting in Cape Town in 2017 was not a lifestyle decision. It was an act of obedience to that larger story.
Q
What happened when Envoy launched publicly?
On 2 July 2017, Envoy held its public launch at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Milnerton. It was the beginning of something new. The years that followed were not without cost. Seasons of significant loss tested the foundation of what was being built. But a church built on a vision received from God is not dismantled by difficulty. It is refined by it. Every season of testing became part of the testimony.
Q
What happened after COVID?
On 4 October 2020, in the wake of the global pandemic, Envoy gathered again. Not as a diminished version of what it once was, but as a community recommitting to the assignment. New beginnings. Then on 19 and 20 October 2024, Envoy relaunched in its current home: a fully renovated cinema-style auditorium, purpose-built for a church that believes excellence honours God. A new space for a new chapter of the same unchanging mission.
Q
What does the story of Envoy tell us about how God builds?
He builds slowly, deliberately and without waste. Every delay was a preparation. Every loss was a pruning. Every new beginning was a promotion in disguise. The story of Envoy is still being written. You are not reading the final chapter. You are joining the narrative at exactly the right moment. The question is not whether God is at work here. The question is whether you are ready to be part of what he is building.

Our Values
7 Questions
Lifelong Learners
Culture of Excellence
We Raise Kings and Priests
Giving Lavishly
Agents of Transformation
Communication and Dialogue
Impartation
Q
What does it mean that Envoy is a community of lifelong learners?
It means the moment you think you have arrived, you have already started going backwards. At Envoy, learning is not a season of life. It is a way of life. We are a school of servant leadership where growth never stops, curiosity is celebrated, and humility is the prerequisite for every promotion. The moment you stop being a student, you stop being useful. Come ready to grow. Leave better than you arrived. Come back and do it again.
Q
What does the culture of excellence look like at Envoy?
It looks like doing nothing halfway. Excellence is not perfection and it is not performance. It is the decision to honour God with your best in every room you enter and every task you touch. A poorly prepared sermon dishonours God. A dirty venue dishonours God. A half-hearted welcome dishonours God. Excellence is a form of worship. At Envoy, the standard is not what is convenient. The standard is what God deserves.
Q
What does it mean that Envoy raises kings and priests?
It means we are not here to produce good church members. We are here to produce men and women who are fully alive in both dimensions of their calling. The priest who communes deeply with God. The king who governs wisely in his God-given domain. These are not two different people. They are two dimensions of the same person. Envoy exists to develop both. Future courses will unpack what this looks like in your specific life and calling.
Q
What does giving lavishly mean as a value?
It means generosity is not something we do when we have extra. It is something we do because of who we are. Giving at Envoy is not limited to money. It is time, skill, attention, encouragement and presence. We give because we have been given to. We give lavishly because a God who gave his only Son set the standard for what generosity looks like. Stinginess has no place in a community called to transform nations.
Q
What does it mean to be men and women of transformation?
It means we do not complain about problems. We solve them. We do not mourn broken systems. We build better ones. Wherever an Envoy member stands, that place should be measurably better because they were there. We are agents of change, carriers of solution, representatives of a God who makes all things new. Transformation is not a department at Envoy. It is the default setting of every person who calls this church home.
Q
Why does Envoy value communication and dialogue?
Because silence breeds assumption and assumption breeds division. We believe that honest, clear, respectful communication is not just a social skill. It is a spiritual discipline. We talk to each other, not about each other. We ask before we assume. We clarify before we conclude. A community that cannot communicate cannot advance. A church that values dialogue values the people it is called to serve.
Q
What is impartation and why does it matter?
Impartation is the transfer of what God has placed in one person into the life of another. It happens through teaching, through relationship, through prayer, through proximity. At Envoy, what we carry we pass on. No gift is hoarded. No anointing is kept private. We are a community of spiritual fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, each one deliberately investing in the next. What was given to us freely, we give freely.
06
How We Are Organised
6 Questions
Q
How is Envoy structured and why does structure matter?
A body without a skeleton cannot stand. A mission without structure cannot advance. Envoy is organised with intentionality because the vision God gave this church is too important to be left to improvisation. Every role exists to serve the mission. Every department exists to carry a specific part of the load. Understanding the structure of your church is not a bureaucratic exercise. It is how you find your place in the body and contribute where you are needed most.
Q
Who leads Envoy and how is leadership structured?
Envoy is led by Pastor Christian Ilunga as Senior Pastor, under the authority and Lordship of Jesus Christ. He oversees all activities of the church, sets the vision, establishes goals and expectations, and follows up to ensure the mission is being fulfilled. The leadership team watches over the spiritual wellbeing of the church and makes important decisions regarding its direction and health.

Q
Who handles the administration of Envoy?
Behind every thriving church is a team that makes sure everything runs with order and integrity. Administration at Envoy oversees all practical operations of the church with excellence. Bookkeeping and accounting ensure that financial records are maintained with accuracy and accountability. Administration at Envoy is not a background function. It is a ministry.

Q
What are Groups and what is their purpose?
Groups are the heartbeat of community life at Envoy. They exist for fellowship, for following up on one another, and for the simple but profound practice of living life together. A church that only gathers on Sundays is a church that only breathes once a week. Groups are how Envoy breathes every day. They are where accountability happens, where burdens are shared, where people are seen, known and cared for. If Sunday is the gathering, Groups are the glue.
Q
What are the departments at Envoy and what do they do?
Departments are the working parts of the body. Each one carries a specific portion of the mission. Every department operates with a clear vision aligned to the larger mission, defined leadership, measurable objectives, and clear procedures. Every department works under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.

Q
What if I want to serve in a department?
Then you are exactly the kind of person Envoy needs. Every department is an opportunity to exercise your God-given gifts in service of the mission. Service is not optional for a follower of Christ. It is the clearest evidence that discipleship is working. Speak to your department head, express your desire to serve, and take the first step. The body grows when every part does its work.
07
Love Your Church
7 Biblical Recommendations
Q
The church is described as a body. What does that mean for me practically?
It means you are not an audience member. You are an organ. A body does not function when its parts sit passively and watch. Every part has a role. Every part is needed. Every part, when absent, is felt. The word church in Greek is ekklesia, meaning a called-out assembly. But Envoy's understanding goes further. The church is a local community of believers who gather for worship and scatter for witness. They share life together, centred on Jesus, for the good of one another and for the good of the world. You were not called out to sit. You were called out to function.
Q
How do I begin to genuinely love my church?
You invest in it. Jesus said it plainly: where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. This is not a guilt trip about money. It is a principle about ownership. The moment you begin investing your time, your presence, your prayer, your gifts and your finances into Envoy, something shifts. It stops being the church you attend and becomes the church you belong to. Love follows investment. Start investing and watch your love grow.
Q
What does generous giving look like in practice?
It looks like giving to your church through tithes, offerings and contributions toward projects. It looks like giving to those around you who are in need. King David said it best when he refused to offer God a sacrifice that cost him nothing. Generosity that does not stretch is not generosity. It is convenience. Give sacrificially, give consistently, and give with the understanding that every seed you sow is building something that will outlast you.
Q
What does hospitality have to do with loving my church?
Everything. The church grows when people feel genuinely welcomed, seen and accepted. Hebrews 13:2 reminds us that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hospitality is not a personality type. It is a command. At Envoy, we bear one another's burdens. We accept one another as Christ accepted us. We look out for the person standing alone. We notice the one who carries more than they are saying. Hospitality is love with its sleeves rolled up.
Q
What does it mean to love my church unconditionally?
It means loving the body of Christ as it actually is, not as you wish it were. The church is a perfect institution made of imperfect people. The moment you love your idea of a perfect church more than the actual church in front of you, you become a danger to it rather than a strength. Love unconditionally means staying when it is hard, restoring gently when someone falls, and refusing to let disappointment become distance. Galatians 6:1 says restore in a spirit of gentleness. Not harshness. Not gossip. Gentleness.
Q
What does active participation look like at Envoy?
It looks like showing up prepared, not just present. It means singing with intention, praying with conviction, and engaging your spiritual gifts in service of the community. The early church in Acts 2 did not spectate. They were all filled, all speaking, all participating. When you arrive on Sunday, arrive ready. Get adequate rest the night before. Prepare in prayer. The gathering is not a performance you watch. It is a sacrifice you bring.
Q
What does it mean to be the 29th chapter of the book of Acts?
The book of Acts has 28 chapters. It ends without a conclusion because the story was never meant to end. The mission that started 2000 years ago is still running. Every generation that takes its place in the story adds a new chapter. Envoy is one of those chapters. And you, by joining this community, are contributing your paragraph to it. We read of the birth of the church across those 28 chapters. But the story goes on. Our church, and the churches we will plant, are part of that story. The question is not whether the story continues. The question is whether your name will be found in it.
08
Who We Are
7 Questions
Q
What kind of people make up Envoy?
Envoy is a community drawn from a dozen nations, united by one faith, one hope and one extraordinary God. We are multicultural not as a strategy but as a conviction. We are qualified professionals, skilled tradespeople, students, parents, entrepreneurs and servants, all choosing to lay their gifts at the feet of the same mission. We are simple people who love deeply, serve quietly and believe boldly. What holds us together is not where we come from. It is where we are going.
Q
Is Envoy the church of one particular culture or nationality?
No. And that is not accidental. It is prophetic. Envoy is not the church of one people. We are a family drawn from a dozen nations under one roof. Our diversity is not something we manage. It is something we celebrate. It is a daily living preview of Revelation 7:9. Every nation, tribe, people and language. When you walk through our doors, you do not leave your culture at the entrance. You bring it as an offering. Together we reflect something no single culture could reflect alone.
Q
Is Envoy just another Sunday church?
No. A church that only exists on Sundays is a church that has misunderstood its assignment. Envoy gathers on Sundays to be equipped and sent. The moment the gathering ends, the mission begins. Our members carry the church into their workplaces, their neighbourhoods, their families and their spheres of influence every single day. Sunday is the fuel stop. The road is everywhere else.
Q
Is Envoy a social club or a community organisation?
No. We love our city and we serve it actively. But social good is the fruit of our mission, not the mission itself. We do not gather primarily to do good things. We gather to encounter the living God, be formed by his Word, and be released into the world as his representatives. The transformation of communities is the evidence of the gospel at work in people. We start with people. The rest follows.
Q
What does excellence look like in Envoy's culture day to day?
It looks like a clean and well-prepared venue. A warm and intentional welcome. A message that was prayed over and prepared with care. A team that showed up early and stayed late. Excellence at Envoy is not about impressive production. It is about the decision to honour God in every detail, no matter how small. We do not cut corners because the mission is too important and the God we serve is too worthy.
Q
What is the atmosphere like at Envoy?
Warm, honest and expectant. We believe God is still in the miracle business. We make room for the Holy Spirit to move because we have learned that without him, everything we build is just architecture. We are a community where you are welcomed as you are, challenged to grow into who God made you to be, and never left to walk the journey alone. You will find professionals and students sitting side by side. You will find people from backgrounds that would never normally overlap, choosing each other. That is not sociology. That is the gospel.
Q
What is the one thing Envoy wants every member to walk away knowing?
That they were made for more. More than a passive religious life. More than a comfortable Christianity that costs nothing and changes nothing. You are a king in your God-given domain. You carry the assignment of heaven into every room you enter. Envoy exists to remind you of that, train you for that, and send you back out to live it. You are not here by accident. You are here on assignment.
09
Your Place in the Story
5 Questions
Q
What if I feel like I have nothing significant to offer?
That feeling is common. It is also incorrect. Every person who has ever been used by God started exactly where you are standing. Gideon was hiding. Moses was stuttering. David was overlooked by his own father. God does not recruit the impressive. He commissions the available. The question Envoy asks is not how talented you are. It is how willing you are. Willingness in the hands of God is the most dangerous thing on earth.
Q
How do I find my place at Envoy?
You start by showing up consistently. Then you serve somewhere, anywhere, before you find the perfect fit. Then you pay attention to what comes naturally, what energises you, and what breaks your heart. Those three things together are usually a very accurate map of your God-given assignment. Envoy has departments, groups and training pathways designed to help you find your lane. But no system replaces the simple decision to make yourself available and let God do the placing.
Q
Does God really have a specific plan for my life or is that just a saying?
It is not a saying. It is a scriptural promise. Ephesians 2:10 says we are God's masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. The word masterpiece in the original Greek is poiema, from which we get the word poem. You are not a rough draft. You are a carefully crafted, intentional work of art, written with a specific purpose in mind. Your life is not random. Your presence at Envoy is not random. God does not waste people.
Q
What is the connection between my gifts and Envoy's mission?
Your gifts are not for you. They are through you, for others and for the mission. The dominant gifts at Envoy reflect the assignment God gave this church: servant hearts, generous hands, teaching voices, apostolic builders, prophetic seers, healers and deliverers. When your gift finds its place in this community, it does not just bless you. It advances something much larger than you. A gear turning in the right place does not just spin. It moves the whole machine.
Q
What is my responsibility now that I have completed this course?
You know too much to stay passive. You now know the vision, the mission, the story, the values and the structure of your church. You know that you are not here by accident. You know that the body needs every part. You know that the 29th chapter of Acts is still being written. The only question left is what you will do with what you now know. Envoy does not need more spectators. It needs more sent ones. Your next step is not complicated. Find where you can serve, show up, and begin.
